Kaj Tindbäck Du Reès
Puppet maker and puppeteer.
Her first interaction with dolls and masks made in paper-mâché was with puppet maker Arne Högsander at the end of the 1980s.
That meeting proved decisive for Kay’s future and after a 3-year apprenticeship she was employed as a doll maker and puppeteer at Stockholm’s City Theatre. First for the puppet show “Långa Näsan” and then the Marionette Theatre.
She has worked over 30 years in this one special artform.
Now Kay has her workshop here in Husaby and continues to work with paper- mâché sculptures – One material she cannot get enough of.
“Birch Maiden and the Little Birds”
Inspired by the myth of The Hamadryad of Greek mythology; a tree nymph that was born and died with their tree.
It is said that the tree nymph let loose a wail when her tree was threatened and called for help when lumberjacks approached.
The author Werner von Heidenstam invented a Swedish word for the Dryad, he called them “Lövjungfrur” or “Leaf Maiden”.
Now Husaby has received it’s first “Birch Maiden”.
The doll and birds are made from papier-mâché.
Surface treatment: chalk, pearl glue and fragments of birch bark. Birch and oil shale from Kinnekulle.
